Chapter 1. FAmSCo Activity

This section gives some quick health indicators about how much FAmSCo is communicating. Sometimes FAmSCo members can't make a meeting due to travel or conflict, but the combination of meeting attendance plus email is a nice metric.

1.1. Meetings

FAmSCo held 3 meetings in January. Attendance was excellent:
  • 3 out of 3 -- Joerg, Max, Maria, David, Susmit
  • 2 out of 3 -- Rodrigo, Luca

1.2. Regional Meetings

One of FAmSCo's goals this year is to make sure that at least one FAmSCo member is at each regional meeting that is held. As of the time this report was prepared, 5 regional meetings held in January had been logged.
  • NA -- 2 meetings, both attended by David.
  • EMEA -- 2 meetings, both attended by Max, 1 attended by Luca and Joerg.
  • APAC -- 1 meeting, attended by Susmit.
  • LATAM -- No meetings logged.

1.4. General accomplishments or decisions

This section discusses the non-regional achievements within either FAmSCo or the larger Ambassadors project from this month.
  • Significant work was done to clean up all FAmSCo wiki pages at the start of the new year, and new FAmSCo term.
  • Clarified the primary tasks and goals of FAmSCo in 2010.
  • Created a new FAmSCo mailing list with open archives.
  • Revised and ratified the FAmSCo election rules .
  • An Ambassador training class was held in Fedora Classroom.
  • The Events FAD 2010 was held, and a tremendous amount of work that is valuable to Ambassadors and regions around the world was started. In addition to the main FAD page, please see Max's wrapup post.
  • Fedora case badges arrived, and are about to be distributed worldwide.
  • became a Fedora vendor. This is significant because they were selling DVDs for two years and we didn't knew about them. We need to work on finding such shops/entities and reach out to them.
  • IOTA is selling pressed Fedora DVD from their stall at Kolkata Book Fair . FAmSCo has ensured that trademark guidelines are followed alongwith pointing to resources needed.

1.5. Budget

The FAmSCo budget rolls up into the larger Community Architecture expenses . On that page, FAmSCo's budget is represented by the "Regional support" line item.
  • We are currently in Q4 2010 (December 2009 - February 2010).
  • FAmSCo's total budget for this quarter is $32,000.
  • Total spent and fully expensed and/or reimbursed: $13,195
  • Estimated amount that has not yet been expensed and/or reimbursed: $3,000
Region Detailed breakdown Total Expense
  • $930 for Hiemanshu's CLT sponsorship
  • $340 for Case badges
  • $290 for
  • $225 for
  • $4,640 for Fedora 12 media
  • $680 for Case badges
  • $60 for Athens release party
  • $340 for Case badges
NA $5690
Table 1.2. Regional Breakdown

At the current pace, we are going to finish the quarter well under budget. This is fine if there are no urgent needs worldwide, but it seems like the flow of money into the regions that need it is currently stalled.
In short, FAmSCo is worried about what seems to be very little spending in LATAM, India, and APAC. We still have about two weeks left in this quarter to correct that, but it requires those regions to get their shopping lists together quickly. In your regional meetings, please make a list of the things that you need, and bring that discussion to the mailing list.

1.6. Mentoring

Month New tickets Still under mentoring Sponsored Rejected
January 50 28 9 57
December 63 5 10 56
Table 1.3. Mentoring

One of the items on the FAmSCo agenda regarding mentoring is the automation of the membership service, which will improve the mentoring workflow, as described here .
