Chapter 1. FAmSCo Activity

About

This section gives some quick health indicators about how much FAmSCo is communicating. Sometimes FAmSCo members can't make a meeting due to travel or conflict, but the combination of meeting attendance plus email is a nice metric.

1.1. Meetings

FAmSCo held 3 meetings in February. Attendance was excellent:
  • 3 out of 3 -- Joerg, Maria, Susmit, Rodrigo, Luca
  • 2 out of 3 -- Max, David
So far this year, FAmSCo has held 6 meetings. Overall attendance has been:
  • 6 out of 6 -- Joerg, Maria, Susmit
  • 5 out of 6 -- Rodrigo, Max, David, Luca

1.2. Regional Meetings

One of FAmSCo's goals this year is to make sure that at least one FAmSCo member is at each regional meeting that is held. As of the time this report was prepared, 6 regional meetings held in February had been logged.
  • NA -- 2 meetings, both attended by David and 1 attended by Max.
  • EMEA -- 1 meeting, attended by Joerg.
  • APAC -- 2 meetings, with no FAmSCo members in attendance.
  • LATAM -- 1 meeting, attended by Rodrigo.

1.4. General accomplishments or decisions

About

This section discusses the non-regional achievements within either FAmSCo or the larger Ambassadors project from this month.
  • The first FAmSCo townhall meeting was held, and it was generally constructive.
  • Concerns were expressed about "bad" booth behavior after FOSDEM. FAmSCo discussed it and decided to leave the final decisions about booth behavior at events to the event owner, or the folks who are in charge of that event's booth.
  • FAmSCo has decided to create a page for "things to show on your laptop during an event".
  • FAmSCo was notified about a case of dispute between a mentor and a mentee. FAmSCo decided to create a standard operating procedure for ensuring prompt action for settling such disputes.
  • FAmSCo has decided to open up the FAmSCo trac, but not before Max deletes all the tickets with private info.
  • Paul Mellors is now a Mentor.
  • FAmSCo has decided to replace the Ambassadors FAQ with a page like this. Help is needed from the ambassadors for building this.
  • FAmSCo will triage all the outdated pages in the Ambassadors category. The pace will be 20 pages/week.

1.5. Budget

About

The FAmSCo budget rolls up into the larger Community Architecture expenses . On that page, FAmSCo's budget is represented by the "Regional support" line item.
Based on the Community Architecture expenses, FAmSCo has about $25,000 USD to spend across the world for regional Fedora support from March 2010 - May 2010.
FAmSCo is recommending earmarking the money as follows:
Region Detailed breakdown Total Budget
NA - $7000
EMEA
  • $4,600 for Fedora 13 media
  • $2600 USD -- Fedora-fr yearly funding for local events and schwags
$7000
LATAM - $6000
India/APAC
  • $200 -- new set of stickers
  • $350 -- set of pens with Fedora branding
  • $3500 -- FAD planned in April at Pune (projected cost needs re-check)
$5000
Table 1.2. FY11 Q1 Budget

February marked the end of Q4 2010 (December 2009 - February 2010). FAmSCo's total budget for this quarter was $32,000.
We finished the quarter under budget, but the Community Architecture team used some of that extra budget for other purposes related to open source in education.
We definitely need to spend more money in LATAM, India, and APAC.
